My name is Valerie Thomas. I started creating jewelry in the summer of 2002. Previous to that, I worked in "corporate America" but left work in January of 2001 due to a disabling autoimmune disease.
Luckily for me, God had another plan for me and in August of 2002 I began beading. In April of 2003 I became a grandmother and between my new hobby and my new grandaughter I found new happiness and new joy in my life.
My jewelry career had an inauspicious beginning during a picnic at a friends house on Lake Little Alum in Brimfield, MA. My friend, Christine, brought out some inexpensive glass and plastic beads for my 9 year old cousin, Taylor to play with. That day I made my very first necklace. I enjoyed it so much I also made everyone present either an anklet or a bracelet. Since that first day, I have progressed from simple stringing and tying knots to more complicated designs and materials.
I attended my first craft fair in November of 2003 and since then have done many more. Sandy, owner of The Spa in South Hadley, MA graciously allowed me to display and sell my jewelry at her salon. While there, my jewelry was seen by Rita Choi-Boyer, a customer of Sandy's and also the soon to be owner of a local boutique. We contacted each other and when she opened her boutique, Danni & Me in April of 2005, in the upscale South Hadley Shops, my jewelry was included on a consignment basis. Rita generously shared the space in her store with me and did an excellent job promoting and selling my jewelry. Since then my business has continued to grow in many directions including house parties, special orders and now this web site.
